How to Maintain Your Six Pack While You Drink Alcohol
There is an old dieting adage that six pack abs aren’t made in the gym, they are made in the kitchen. We say that six pack abs can also be made at the bar stool.
But seriously, you can’t outwork a poor diet. Doing millions of crunches won’t help you show off those chiseled ab muscles if you have a layer of blubber covering them up.
And part of any sensible weight loss program is monitoring how many calories you drink, both from alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
We can all agree that pounding sugary beverages like soft drinks and juices don’t help show off those ripped abs.
And you have certainly been told by multiple diet gurus that drinking is a cardinal sin.
So what’s a bro or bro-ette (is that even a word?) to do if you want to get a toned mid-section and throw back a few from time to time.
The Five Steps to Get a Six Pack While You Drink
Simple. Follow these five steps and you’ll be flexing your gut with the best of them as you booze it up.
- Keep Track of All Your Calories, Including Calories from Alcohol. This one is a must. You can’t lose weight and drink without conscious. Six pack abs are only visible if you have a low body fat percentage. For men, this is around 10 – 12% bodyfat. For women, it comes in somewhere higher, usually around 16-18% bodyfat. Since the only way to lose fat is to burn more calories than you consume (a caloric deficit), know how many calories alcohol is contributing to your overall consumption. And be wary of eating after you are inebriated. Those late night pizzas and burritos add up.
- Plan Ahead How Many Drinks You Will Have Before You Go Drinking. This one is a no-brainer. Figure out before you go out exactly how many drinks you are going to have.
- Opt for No-Calorie, Sugar-Free Mixed Drinks or Just Go With Plain Hard Liquor. Love the taste of a gin and tonic or those shots that you pay $9 for at the bar? Well, you better realize that those drinks add up substantially.
- Dude, Go Easy on the Beer. This one is directed at the guys. Don’t go drinking a case of beer and then complain that you can’t lose weight. As they say about six packs, fat guys drink em and hot guys show them off.
- For Every Drink You Have, Drink Two Glasses of Water. This one is the oldest tricks in the book to keep you sober and minimize your number of calories from alcohol.
